Napoli’s hesitancy in offering coach Maurizio Sarri a renewal could see him join rivals AC Milan, who are looking to take advantage of the situation.
Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis has the option of renewing Sarri’s contract by April 30 and has chosen to wait instead of offering an immediate extension.
De Laurentiis’ decision has put Milan on high alert especially with rumours circulating about Sinisa Mihajlovic’s departure after the Diavolo’s 2-0 defeat to Sassuolo over the weekend.
As reported by Corriere della Sera, Napoli could have given the the 57-year-old Sarri an extension already, but the delay suggests that the Neapolitans may have other plans in mind, which may include the tactician not being in the club’s dugout for the next season.
The Azzurri’s appointment of the former Empoli coach has coincided with the club’s dramatic rise this season which sees them occupy second spot in the league table and continue to challenge for their first Scudetto since 1990.
